ALBANY, N.Y. – The Maritime women's lacrosse team dropped a Skyline Conference matchup to the Sage Gators on Thursday night, falling to its host by a 15-12 score at John Fallon Field on the University at Albany Campus.

Juniors Leanne Lavelle (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) and Caroline Reynolds (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego), led Maritime with three goals each in the contest, while sophomore Jane Quinn (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) and freshman Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) each registered two goals apiece.

Maritime also got goals from junior Elizabeth Higley (Palm City, Fla./Martin County), and sophomore Marisa Athan (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola).

Defensively, Reynolds led the team with four caused turnovers, while sophomore Kelsey Ireland (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) registered a team-best four ground balls. Sophomore Christina Finnen (Hicksville, N.Y./Holy Trinity) made one save through 60 minutes of play.

The Privateers opened the scoring with a goal out of the stick of Lavelle with 2:15 gone by in the opening period. Sage rattled off four consecutive goals before Brady put an end to the run and trimmed the lead in half at 4-2 with less than 10 minutes gone by.

After another three Gator goals made the score 7-2, Reynolds netted her first of the game. Sage scored once more to put the home team back ahead by five, but Maritime answered back with a pair of goals from Reynolds and one each from Brady and Higley to close out the half.

At the break, the Privateers trailed by one at 8-7, with the second half still remaining.

Sage opened the scoring in the second half, but Maritime answered back 21 seconds later on a Quinn strike. The Gators scored once again to regain a two-goal lead, but Maritime finally was able to tie the contest on back-to-back goals by Lavelle and Quinn to even the game at 10.

The Gators picked up the momentum once again and scored four straight markers including a man-down goal to give Sage a commanding 14-10 lead with just 7:53 left in the contest.

Lavelle came back down the field and recorded her third goal of the contest to pull Maritime back within four with time working against the Privateers. After one last Sage goal, Athan picked up a man-down goal off a pass from sophomore Hannah Mutum (Franklin Square, N.Y./Carey) with 1:45 left in the game to cap off the scoring at 15-12.
