THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime women's lacrosse team played host to the Farmingdale Rams on Tuesday evening in Skyline Conference action and fell by the score of 20-1.
Maritime got its lone goal from junior
Leanne Lavelle (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) for her 18th of the season, while sophomore goalkeeper
Christina Finnen (Hicksville, N.Y./Holy Trinity) made two saves on the night. Lavelle also led the squad with four draw controls on the evening.
Freshman
Paige Frankel (Hackensack, N.J./Immaculate Conception) led the team with three caused turnovers and also had two ground balls, while Lavelle also chimed in with a pair of caused turnovers. Freshman
Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) was the team leader with four shots and also chipped in with a pair of ground balls. Freshman
Abigail Granit (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) also had two loose ball pickups.
The Rams possessed the ball throughout most of half as eight different goal scorers found the back of the net to open up the scoring for Farmingdale. Lavelle scored on a free-position shot to put Maritime on the board with 8:14 left in the opening period.
The Rams scored three more in the remainder of the period to take a 10-goal lead into the halftime break at an 11-1 mark. At the break, Farmingdale had 13 shots while Maritime registered four shots, with two on target.
In the second half, Farmingdale added nine more goals to cap off its 20-goal evening.
Farmingdale had 19 ground balls on the game to Maritime's 10, while the Rams also held a 15-8 advantage in draw controls. The Rams were 8-of-9 on clear attempts and did not attempt a free position shot on the night. Turnovers were relatively close with Farmingdale giving the ball away 14 times to Maritime's 16.
Maritime (2-8, 0-5 Skyline) will play its final non-conference game of the season on Thursday evening when the team plays host to the Merchant Marine Academy Mariners for a 7 p.m. start on Reinhart Field as part of the third annual "Sound Shootout."
Farmingdale (7-4, 4-1 Skyline) will also play on Thursday evening as the team travels to take on the Connecticut College Camels for a 7 p.m. start.
