THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Privateers men's lacrosse team will be recognizing the 1986 men's lacrosse team that won the ECAC Championship on Friday, March 13, at halftime of the  team's game against Maine Maritime in the 2015 Maritime Cup.

Members of the team will be on hand and be recognized for their impressive season that culminated with a championship.

"We're really excited to have the members of the 1986 ECAC Championship men's lacrosse team back at Maritime as part of the Maritime Cup next weekend," commented men's lacrosse head coach Daniel Lawrence.

The 1986 Maritime men's lacrosse team finished the season with a 12-5 overall record with a 7-0 mark in the Knickerbocker Conference. The team cruised to the unbeaten conference record with overwhelming victories over Southampton (17-9), Montclair State (19-9), Dowling (14-2), FDU-Teaneck (10-4), Stevens (15-7), and closed out the regular season with a 12-11 win over Marist.

Winning the league clinched a spot in the ECAC Tournament, which began with a semifinal matchup against conference opponent Southampton, and snuck past the team by a 20-19 final score to set up a championship matchup against FDU-Madison. In the championship game, the Privateers won yet another high-scoring affair with an 18-16 victory to clinch the championship.

Four players on the team put together 50 point campaigns in 1986, including Kevin Mannix, who finished his season with 87 goals and 28 assists. John Swaine had 29 goals and 46 assists, with Tim Cockerill contributing with 46 goals and 15 helpers. Paul Baiata had 50 points on the season with 38 goals and a dozen assists.

Maritime (1-0, 0-0 Skyline) will continue its 2015 season on Saturday morning, when the team takes on Oswego at 11:30 a.m. from the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y.
