Final ResultsTHROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's & Women's Swimming teams opened up Skyline Conference action on Thursday evening, as the teams hosted the Dolphins of the College of Mount St. Vincent inside the Riesenberg Aquatic Center.
Both teams coasted to victories over the Dolphins, final scores can be found on the
results page.
The men's squad took care of business early against the Dolphins, as the medley relay of senior
Ryan Fitzgerald (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place), along with sophomores
John Dean (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen),
Doug Russell (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) and freshman
John Accetta (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg) clocked in at 1:52.19. Rookie
Chris Chilelli (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) earned a win in the 1,000-Yard Freestyle, as he battled it out with Dean and freshman
Tristan DeYoung (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) in the lengthy event.
Chilelli went back-to-back as he scored a 2:06.41, just over a half-second better than sophomore
Pat O'Dea (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) (2:07.02). Senior
Nicholas Brow (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) also collected a time of 2:29.55 in the event. The 50-Yard Freestyle saw senior
Peter Skerys (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) earn a close win with a time of 24.65, followed by junior
Brian Roberts (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville), and rookie
Kyle Zajaczkowski (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge).
Rookie
Nathanael Marino (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) finished in first during the 200-Yard Individual Medley, followed by junior
Robert Lewis (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown), and sophomore
Andrew Katz (Elwood, N.Y./John Glenn). Freshman
Kevin Wu (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis), along with rookie
Lillo Rubino (Islip Terrace, N.Y./Central Islip) and senior
Brendan Erskine (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) swept the board in the 100 Butterfly. Maritime took the top three spots in the 100-Yard Freestyle, with junior
Jonathan Murray (Long Beach, N.Y./Kellenberg) paving the way with a 54.22. Marino and junior
Charles Gallagher (Port Ewen, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) also scored times of less than a minute.
Freshman
Preston Truong (Austin, Texas/Round Rock) recorded a sub-minute time in the 100-Yard Backstroke at 58.90, followed by Erskine netting a win in the 500-Yard Freestyle at 5:29.07. Lewis notched a time of 1:09.60 in the 100 Breaststroke, edging out junior
Craig Lyon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) and sophomore
Adrian Klein (Palma de Mallorca, Spain/Gilmer Country (W. Va.)) in the process.
The relay team of Truong, Marino, Russell and Wu scored the final win of the night for the Privateers in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay. Roberts, O'Dea, Skerys, and sophomore
Kevin Keane (East Islip, N.Y./St. Anthony's) came in second, followed by senior
Matt Cannon (Sparta, N.J./Sparta), freshman
Kevin Gilroy (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North), along with Katz and Accetta in third as all three of Maritime's relay squads posted times within 10 seconds of one another.
The Privateer women also picked up their first win of the season and got off to a fast start as senior
Emma Crandall (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield), junior
Danielle Leahy (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Cocoa Beach), and freshmen
Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) and
Erica Davis (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) scored a first place finish with a 2:15.39 in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.
Junior
Ashley O'Brien (Queens, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) swam unopposed in the 1,000-Yard Freestyle as she touched the wall with a time of 14:25.38. Freshman
Ekaterina Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) scored a win in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:13.33.
In a close battle in the 50-Yard Freestyle, Leahy narrowly missed out on a win falling just 0.24 seconds behind a Dolphin swimmer. Sophomores
Alexandra Schnabel (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. Anthony's) (35.11) and
Gabrielle Kempski (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) (36.07) also scored points in the 50-Yard Free.
Zink collected the first individual win in her career with a time of 2:34.13 in the 200 Individual Medley, with sophomore
Sarah Soulagnet (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Homeschooled) just 11 seconds off the pace at 2:45.79 for a second place finish. Aaron and Soulagnet posted strong times in the 100 Butterfly, as Aaron continues a strong start to her career with her fifth straight individual win.
In the 100-Yard freestyle, sophomore
Jessica Yee () kicked off her collegiate swimming career with a 1:18.44 in the event, followed by Schnabel (1:22.67), and Kempski (1:27.50). Crandall, Aaron, and Davis all competed in the 100 Backstroke, with Crandall leading the Privateers with a 1:21.44.
As the night progressed, Aaron scored a win in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 6:04.27. Zink picked up a win in the 100-Yard Breaststroke at 1:19.91, before the women's freestyle relay team of Soulagnet, O'Brien, Davis and Leahy scored a sub-two minute time of 1:58.96.
The team will head on the road for its next meet, when the Privateers travel to Long Island for a Skyline Conference meet with the Old Westbury Panthers at 6 p.m. on November 12 from the Clark Athletic Center.
