Men's Soccer Takes 2-1 Match Over Berkeley (N.Y.)

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's Soccer team won their second consecutive one-goal game, 2-1, in a non-conference match against Berkeley (N.Y.) Wednesday evening on Reinhart Field. Senior Colton Gallt (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) and junior Corey Cartano (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson) scored one goal each in the team's win.

Gallt's goal, his sixth of the season, came with just 21.1 seconds remaining in the first half. Junior Kieran Donnelly (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) led a break off a Berkeley turnover before passing to Gallt who shot passed the keeper into the back of the net.

In the 68th minute, Cartano scored his second goal of the season to push the lead over the Knights to 2-0. Senior Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) picked up a loose ball and then punted it over the mid field, Cartano gathered the high bouncing ball, took a touch to his left and then shot to the right of the keeper for the game winning goal. Cartano was a spark off the bench in the second half with three total shots and two shots on goal.

In addition to his first career assist and point, Weber had three saves and zero goals against in 78 minutes in net.

Seniors Patrick McCarty (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway), Kevin Ferriera, and sophomore Matt Smith (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) all registered shots on goal in the win.

Junior Andrew Barry (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) and sophomore Brett Reilly (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) both had strong defensive performances in the win. To go along with his defense, Reilly also added two shots.

Freshman Dillon Quinlan-Huertas (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) recorded a pair of saves in over 11 minutes in goal, the saves were the first in the rookie netminder's career.

The Privateers (8-4-0, 2-2 Skyline) outshot the Knights (8-5-0, 4-0 HVIAC) 23 to 10. They also led in corners 18 to 0. Maritime's will look to continue their winning streak this Saturday against Mount St. Vincent at 1 p.m. on Reinhart Field.
