THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's Soccer team dropped a home Skyline Conference matchup to the Mount St. Vincent Dolphins by the score of 1-0 on Reinhart Field on Saturday afternoon.

Mount St. Vincent scored the lone goal of the matchup to in the 48th minute as the Privateers were called for a foul just outside the 18-yard box. The ball curved into the goal around the four-person wall to put the Dolphins ahead by a 1-0 score.

Maritime was led by senior
Colton Gallt (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) with two shots on the afternoon, while seven others all picked up shots. Senior
Renato Chira-Farfan (Miraflores, Peru/Mahopac (N.Y.)) and freshman
Billy Horgan (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) both picked up shots on goal in the match.

In goal, senior
Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) made three saves on the day, while playing the entire 90 minutes in goal.

The Privateers had a strong opportunity in the opening minutes as senior
Sheick Wattara (Bronx, N.Y./Urban Assembly for Math & Science) took a shot that was just wide right of the post, Gallt followed the shot and bicycled a kick over the goal for two quick chances for Maritime.

Through the first 45 minutes of the match, Mount St. Vincent recorded six shots while Maritime mustered three shots in the half. Corner kicks were 2-1 in favor of the Dolphins, while both sides were called offsides on one occasion.

In the second half, the Privateers were called for the foul just outside the 18-yard box on the right wing. Just 2:50 into the half, the shot off the free kick curled into the goal as the Dolphins netted the initial and eventual only goal of the match.

Sophomore
Matt Smith (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) recorded a header shot off a corner kick that sailed over the crossbar as the Privateers were looking for the equalizer. Freshman
Parker Gallt (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) recorded a shot, as did Horgan in the closing 10 minutes of the match, while junior
Corey Cartano (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson) put a shot towards goal as well that was off target.

The final seconds ticked off the clock, and Mount St. Vincent escaped with the 1-0 victory. Final stats saw Mount St. Vincent take 10 overall shots, while Maritime recorded nine. Shots on goal were in favor of the Dolphins at a 4-2 clip, with corner kicks at 3-2 in favor of corner kicks.

Maritime (8-5-0, 2-3-0 Skyline) will resume Skyline play on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. when the St. Joseph's (Bklyn) come to Reinhart Field for their first head-to-head Skyline matchup against the Privateers.

Mount St. Vincent (5-7-2, 1-4-2 Skyline) will travel to take on Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Monday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff in North Adams, Mass.
