Men’s Soccer Nets Eight Goals in Win over St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn)

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's Soccer team recorded eight goals on Tuesday evening as the team defeated the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears by the score of 8-2 on Reinhart Field in Skyline Conference action.

Leading the offensive charge for the team was freshman Parker Gallt (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South), who recorded three goals on the match. Fellow freshman Jack Feehan (Massapequa, N.Y./Farmingdale) picked up a goal and two assists for four points on the night as well.

Seniors Brian McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill), Renato Chira-Farfan (Miraflores, Peru/Mahopac (N.Y.)), Sheick Wattara (Bronx, N.Y./Urban Assembly for Math & Science) all registered goals, as did sophomore Brian Gottlieb (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. John the Baptist). Junior Corey Cartano (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson) picked up a pair of assists, while freshman Billy Horgan (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) also collected one assist on the evening.

The match did not start out swimmingly for the Privateers, as St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead just 1:48 into the contest. The Bears took a 2-0 advantage in the 18th minute of play.

After a series of changes to the lineup, the Privateer offense perked up and Gallt picked up his first of the evening off a pass from Cartano in the 25th minute of play. Gallt collected his second of the night as he tied the match off a helper from Feehan.

Gallt registered the natural hat trick on his third consecutive goal in the 38th minute of play to give Maritime its first lead of the contest.

The Privateers picked up one more goal before the half as Feehan collected his second of the season, just before the break to send Maritime into the locker room with a 4-2 lead.

Maritime continued to roll, as it took just 40 seconds into the second half as Cartano fed Wattara, who buried a shot to make the score 5-2. McKeever was up next as he was on the receiving end of a Feehan pass and connected on his first of the year to increase the lead to four.

Chira-Farfan took a pass from Horgan and planted it in the back of the goal to make the score 7-2, before Gottlieb capped off the scoring on a long shot from the wing over the goalkeeper to give the Privateers their eighth goal of the contest.

In goal, senior Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) played the first 75:01 of the match and made three saves on the night. Freshman Dillon Quinlan-Huertas (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) played the final 14:59 and made one save, to increase his season total to three in limited action.

The Privateers finished the contest outshooting their guests by a 33-9 margin, including a 22-5 difference in the opening half. The Privateers also had five corner kicks, and were called offsides on 11 occasions throughout the full 90 minutes of play.
