JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Maritime Volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matchups to the New Jersey City Gothic Knights and Manhattanville Valiants on Saturday afternoon, dropping both matches in straight sets.

On the day, sophomore
Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) led the team with seven kills, while senior
Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) and freshman
Meredith Hayes (Houston, Texas/St. Agnes Academy) each had four. Juniors
Erika Bailey (Newark Valley, N.Y./Tioga Central) and
Carly Lombardo (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) each had three kills on the afternoon. Bailey also added 13 assists, while Brady registered three service aces to lead the team on offense.

Defensively, Acklin led the squad with 16 digs, while Lombardo recorded 14 over the two-match span. Hayes led the team with two blocks, while Acklin, and senior
Meghan Burke (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) both had one block apiece.

The Privateers battled with former Skyline Conference foe Manhattanville in the second match of the day, with the Valiants winning in straight sets; 25-11, 25-10, and 25-15.

Leading the way for Maritime in the three-set affair was Bailey and Brady as the duo picked up three kills each. Bailey also had seven assists on the match.

Lombardo and Brady each picked up 11 digs, followed by Brady with six and Bailey with five. Hayes also recorded a pair of blocks, assisting with Acklin on one of the blocks.

In the opener, Maritime fell to the Gothic Knights in straight sets. In the third set, Maritime fell by a 25-21 score with Acklin and Brady leading the way with four kills each. Bailey picked up six assists in the set, while Acklin led the squad with five digs.

Maritime (12-11, 4-2 Skyline) will continue non-conference play on Monday evening inside Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium, when the Culinary Steels make their way to Throggs Neck for a 6 p.m. start.

New Jersey City (10-13, 0-6 NJAC) will play host to the Stockton Ospreys for a 7 p.m. start from Jersey City, N.J on Tuesday evening. Manhattanville (14-8, 1-4 MAC Freedom) will be off to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. for a Tuesday evening league matchup against the King's (Pa.) Monarchs slated for 7 p.m.
