Box Score THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime women's soccer team knocked off the Yeshiva Maccabees on Wednesday evening by the score of 6-1 on Reinhart Field. Five different Privateers found the back of the net, in the one-sided victory.
Â
The scoring began with freshman
Julianna Avitto (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) taking a pass off the wing before dodging around several Maccabee defenders and sending the ball into the net to open up Maritime's offensive night. In the 21st minute classmate
Gayle Woods (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) scored her third marker of the season to increase the Privateer lead to 2-0.
Â
As time progressed, Avitto picked up her second of the evening as she took a shot from the middle of the field toward the left post to give her side a three-goal advantage. Junior
Caroline Reynolds (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) got in on the scoring action several minutes later after taking a pass from sophomore
Jillian Raimo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) off the left flank to put Maritime ahead by four goals.
Â
The four-goal advantage stood into the halftime break, where through 45 minutes Maritime had outshot Yeshiva by a 19-0 advantage. In goal, junior
Kristen Hoar (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore East) did not face a shot to that point, as she made way for freshman
Paige Frankel (Hackensack, N.J./Immaculate Conception) in goal for the second half.
Â
Frankel was tested early, as she faced a shot just over seven minutes into the half. After Sholmit Braun broke free from the Maritime defense, she took a long shot that bounced off of post and then off of Frankel's hands before trickling over the goal line to break the shutout.
Â
About 20 minutes later, the Privateers responded once again as Raimo collected her first collegiate goal after sending a shot inside the left post to give Maritime a four-goal lead once again. The scoring was capped off as freshman
Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) netted her first collegiate tally off a pass from sophomore
Kathleen Burns (Islip, N.Y./Islip) to put Maritime ahead by a 6-1 score that held through the final 9:20 of regulation.
Â
At the final horn, Maritime had outshot Yeshiva by a 38-5 advantage, with corner kicks also in favor of Maritime at a 5-0 mark.
Â
Earning the win was Hoar, as she did not allow a goal through the first 45 minutes. Frankel finished off the game for the Privateers as she made four saves and allowed the lone Yeshiva score. For the Maccabees, Elana Kook registered 14 saves while allowing all six Maritime goals through 90 minutes of action.
Â
Maritime (2-4-1, 0-0 Skyline) will open up Skyline Conference play this Saturday, when the Privateers will travel to nearby Purchase College for a date with the Panthers at 11 a.m. Yeshiva (0-8-0, 0-2 HVIAC) will travel to Albany College of Pharmacy as league play resumes for the Maccabees at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 21.
