THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 7, 2014) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team returns to non-conference action as it looks to take down the Mariners of the Merchant Marine Academy this evening at 7 p.m. at Brooks Stadium in Kings Point, New York.

Dylan Larmony (Old Bethpage, N.Y./Plainview JFK) and
Andrew Scalesi (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), sophomore
Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin), and freshmen
Zachary Pace (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) and
Colin McCoy (Glen Allen, Va./Greenport (N.Y.)).
Hayes also went 16-for 23 on faceoffs and collected a team-high 14 ground balls. While in goal, classmate
Mike Arnold (Plainedge, N.Y./Plainedge) registered 13 saves while suffering the loss. Sophomore
Jonathan Strezenec (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) led the defense with a pair of caused turnovers and five ground balls.
SCOUTING THE MARINERSMerchant Marine enters with a 5-4 record on the season including wins in each of its last two contests. On Saturday, the Mariners defeated Mount St. Vincent by a 13-5 score at home against the Dolphins.
In the win, Geoff Harty led the way with four goals and an assist while collecting a team-high 15 shots. Second on the team was Troy Smith with four goals on 14 shots, while Ray Waters also added a pair of goals in the lopsided victory.
On the season, Harty leads the team with 23 goals and 33 points, followed by Smith with 19 goals on the season. Phil Walker is third on the team with 15 goals and seven assists on the year, while Robert Tirrito leads the squad with 11 assists on the year.
Chris Whitenack leads the team in faceoffs with 94 wins in 123 attempts, and also has the team-high 86 ground balls on the season. In goal, Alex Peyreigne has started in all but one contest this season and has accumulated a 5-3 record with a 55.9 save percent and an 8.72 goals against average.
ALL-TIME SERIESOf the games on record, Maritime is 1-8 in head-to-head matchups with its cross-sound rivals, including losses in five straight games.
Last season, Maritime fell at home to Merchant Marine by a 13-3 score as
Matthew Messina picked up two goals, and Scalesi picked up the third.
Nick Barbuto took the loss despite making 12 saves in 45 minutes worth of work. Arnold came on to finish the game and registered two saves in the final quarter.

Merchant Marine heads on the road to take on a pair of conference opponents as the season begins to draw to a close. The Mariners take on Scranton this Saturday at 1 p.m. before a date with the Drew Rangers on April 19 at 3 p.m.
