THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 1, 2014) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team looks to pick up its first Skyline Conference win of the season when the team travels to Union, N.J. on Wednesday evening for a matchup with the Kean Cougars.

LAST GAME RECAPThe Privateers enter off of a 21-8 loss on Saturday afternoon to the Farmingdale Rams in the Skyline Conference opener. In the loss, senior
Andrew Scalesi (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), sophomore
Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin), and freshman
Zachary Pace (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) each found the back of the net twice each, while senior
Dylan Larmony (Old Bethpage, N.Y./Plainview JFK) and freshman
Colin McCoy (Glen Allen, Va./Greenport (N.Y.)) picked up one goal each.
Pace also led the team with two assists, while junior
Neil Nembhard (Commack, N.Y./Commack) also picked up a helper. On faceoffs, Hayes collected 15 wins in 28 attempts while leading the team with 12 ground balls. Senior
James Quinn (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) led the defensive unit with three caused turnovers.
In goal, sophomore
Mike Arnold (Plainedge, N.Y./Plainedge) started the game and allowed 16 goals in the first 49:03 of the game. Freshman
Alex Haim (Youngstown, N.Y./Lewiston Porter) came on and did not register a save in the final 10:57 of the contest.
SCOUTING THE COUGARSKean enters Wednesday night's game with a 9-1 overall record, with its lone loss coming by an 8-5 score against Plattsburgh on March 7. Since then the Cougars have won seven straight games including a convincing 19-7 win over Centenary on Saturday afternoon.
In the win over Centenary, Kean was led by Matt Speciale, Anthony Perrotta and Vincent Ferraro as the trio each collected three goals apiece. In goal Dino Vitale netted his eighth win of the season while making one save in the first 30 minutes of action.
For the season, Speciale leads the team with 26 goals and 36 points, while Richard Cheifitz is one point behind with his 24 goals and team-leading 11 assists. Anthony Carpenter has 16 goals and 25 points, while John Marcelli rounds out the double-digit goal scorers with a dozen tallies this season.
In goal, Vitale has an impressive 5.35 goals against average and a .720 save percentage en route to his 8-1 record. He has stopped 116 shots sent his way, while yielding just 45 goals in 504:27 worth of game time.
ALL-TIME SERIESMaritime is 4-6 in all-time games against Kean, with loses in two straight contests in head-to-head matchups. Last season Maritime fell to Kean by a 21-6 score on Reinhart Field.
In the loss, Maritime was led by
Nick Schneider with three goals, while
Kevin Winter picked up two goals and one assist. Hayes was 18-for-26 on faceoffs, and led the team with 12 ground balls. In goal,
Nick Barbuto made 16 saves and allowed the first 15 Cougar goals in just under 41 minutes worth of action.
