Box Score MADISON, N.J. (March 5, 2014) –The Maritime Privateers men's lacrosse team fell to the FDU-Florham Devils by the score of 15-3 on Wednesday evening on Robert T. Shields Field.
It was a night of firsts for the Maritime goal scorers as senior
Paul Grubb (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun), and freshmen
Kevin Izzo (Cutchogue, N.Y./Mattituck) and
Will McDermott (Lexington Park, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) each picked up the first goal of their respective collegiate careers.
The Privateers also had success at the faceoff 'X' as sophomore
Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) picked up 13 wins in 18 chances while also leading the team with 14 ground balls. Senior
Andrew Scalesi (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) was also 2-for-2 on faceoffs as the duo combined to win 75% of the faceoffs won in the contest overall.
FDU-Florham jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but McDermott answered back with Maritime's first goal of the game as classmate
Colin McCoy (Glen Allen, Va./Greenport (N.Y.)) was credited with the assist. The Devils answered with nine straight goals as the game crossed into the second half with FDU-Florham leading 13-1.
Grubb netted his first goal of the season with a dish from the stick of McCoy with 3:45 to go in the third quarter. For McCoy it was his third assist of the season, after picking one up in the team's previous game against Centenary on Saturday.
The Devils picked up two more goals to start off the 4th quarter and take a 15-2 advantage. Maritime scored once more as Izzo picked up an unassisted tally with 17 seconds left in regulation to cap off the scoring in the game as FDU-Florham won by the 15-3 mark.
Overall there were 96 ground balls in the contest with 45 picked up by the Privateers. Hayes led the team with his 14, followed by senior
Dylan Larmony (Old Bethpage, N.Y./Plainview JFK) with five loose balls. Sophomore netminder
Mike Arnold (Plainedge, N.Y./Plainedge) was third on the team with three ground balls as he finished the game with a career-high 12 saves while suffering the loss.
Maritime (1-2, 0-0 Skyline) will look to regroup on Saturday afternoon as the team makes its Reinhart Field debut at 1 p.m. against Shenandoah with live stats of the game available at

FDU-Florham (2-2, 0-0 Freedom) will continue its homestand on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against Cobleskill with a 1 p.m start.
