Men's Lacrosse Drops First Skyline Matchup to Farmingdale on Saturday Afternoon

Throggs Neck, N.Y. (March 29, 2014) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team dropped its first Skyline Conference matchup of the season on Saturday afternoon to the visiting Rams of Farmingdale by a final score of 21-8 on Reinhart Field.

The Privateers were led by senior Andrew Scalesi (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), sophomore Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin), and freshman Zachary Pace (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township), who each netted two goals apiece. Pace also led Maritime in assists with two for a total of four points. Hayes added a game-high 12 ground balls and won 15 of the 28 faceoff attempts he had in the contest.

Farmingdale opened up the scoring with five consecutive goals to take a 5-0 lead with 6:11 remaining in the first quarter.
Shortly after, Hayes opened up the scoring for the Privateers adding a goal with 5:04 remaining in the first quarter to trim the lead to four. The Rams went on to score the next three goals to give Farmingdale an 8-1 lead.

Maritime scored the final two goals of the half with goals by Hayes and Pace and head into the locker room trailing by a score of 8-3.

In the second half, the Rams opened up with two goals, until Scalesi ended the scoring drought on a strike with 10:22 left in the third quarter. Farmingdale ended the period with five more goals.

Maritime opened up the scoring to start the fourth quarter on a goal by senior Dylan Larmony (Old Bethpage, N.Y./Plainview JFK) less than a minute into the period. Just under four minutes later freshman Colin McCoy (Glen Allen, Va./Greenport (N.Y.)) ignited the Privateers with another score to trim the deficit to 16-6.

After five more Farmingdale goals, Maritime finished out the game strong as Pace and Scalesi each added their second of the day to finish off the scoring on the afternoon at 21-8.

Senior defender James Quinn (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) led the defensive unit with three caused turnovers.

In net, sophomore Mike Arnold (Plainedge, N.Y./Plainedge) was credited with the loss after allowing 16 goals on 21 shots to give him an overall record of 3-4. Getting the win for Farmingdale was Thomas Fallon after allowing three goals, and adding six saves on the day.

On the day Maritime outshot the Rams by 42-31 margin. The groundball and faceoff battles were both close to even as Maritime led groundballs 33-32 and faceoffs 16-15.

The Privateers will continue Skyline play as they hit the road on Wednesday, April 2 to take on the Kean Cougars in a matchup that is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Farmingdale will resume a week from today on April 5, when they travel to Skyline rival Mount St. Mary with the opening faceoff slated for 2:30 p.m.
