Men's Lacrosse Preview: Maritime looks for Third Straight Win vs. SUNYIT

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 21, 2014) – Coming off of a convincing 18-3 victory on Wednesday night over Lyndon State, the Maritime men's lacrosse team looks for its third straight win on Saturday against SUNYIT. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon on Reinhart Field.

LAST GAME RECAP
Maritime overwhelmed the Lyndon State Hornets in its last contest by an 18-3 score. Eight different Privateers found the back of the net, including freshman Colin McCoy (Glen Allen, Va./Greenport (N.Y.)) leading the way with four tallies. Senior James D'Amico (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) and junior Neil Nembhard (Commack, N.Y./Commack) each collected three goals apiece.

Freshman Zachary Pace (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) collected two goals, while senior Paul Grubb (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) also netted a pair while leading the team with a game-high five assists. Sophomore Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) led the team in ground balls with 16, while also converting on 15-of-19 in regards to faceoffs.

In goal, sophomore Mike Arnold (Plainedge, N.Y./Plainedge) got the start and the win while making just one save through the first 30 minutes of play. Freshmen Kieran Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) and Alex Heim played the third and fourth quarters respectively with Clark making two saves, and Heim not facing a shot.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
SUNYIT is 0-4 on the season thus far with losses to Alfred, Oswego, Utica and Bard. In its most recent loss to Bard, the Wildcats fell by a close score of 9-7. In the game, Jon Eguren led the team with three goals, while Denver Babowicz and Tyler Serva each collected two goals.

On the season, Eguren and Serva lead the team with six goals each, while Brett Gifford leads the team in points with four goals and six assists. Serva also serves as the team faceoff taker as he has won 43-of-78 attempts this season with a team-leading 33 ground balls.

In goal, junior Jeffrey Melnik has played every minute this season for the team and has allowed 56 goals while stopping 59 shots sent his way. He currently has a 14.00 goals against average, while stopping 51.3% of the shots sent his way.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Maritime has not played SUNYIT in modern program history (2005-present), as this will be the first matchup between the Privateers and the Wildcats.

UP NEXT
After today's non-conference contest, Maritime will take a week off in preparation of its Skyline Conference opener on Saturday, March 29 against Farmingdale at 1 p.m. on Reinhart Field.

SUNYIT will continue its brief two-game road-trip with a stop against NEAC opponent Hilbert set for March 29 at 2 p.m.
