THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (February 28, 2014) – Coming off of its first win of the season in overtime against Manhattanville a week ago, the Maritime men's lacrosse team heads to Madison, N.J. to take on Centenary for its first road game of the season.
LAST GAME RECAP
Sophomore midfielder
Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) led Maritime to its 9-8 victory just 2:29 into the first overtime period to give the Privateers their second win over the Valiants in as many seasons. In addition to Hayes' goal, freshman
Zachary Pace (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) led the team with four goals on eight shots. Senior
Dylan Larmony (Old Bethpage, N.Y./Plainview JFK) also contributed with two tallies as well. Sophomore goalkeeper
Mike Arnold (Plainedge, N.Y./Plainedge) registered 10 saves en route to the win.
SCOUTING THE CYCLONES
Centenary has yet to play a game this season after their scheduled opener against Alvernia on Wednesday was postponed. Last season the Cyclones finished the season with a 14-4 overall record with a 4-2 mark in CSAC play as the team fell in the conference championship game to nationally ranked Cabrini.
The Cyclones lost their top-five goal scorers from a season ago, as junior Joshua Caven leads the team amongst returners with his 14 goals from a season ago in 17 games. In goal, sophomore Kevin Switzer returns for his second year with the team after a successful campaign that saw him go 11-4 with a 9.19 goals against average.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Since the start of the 2005 season, Maritime and Centenary have met five times with the Privateers earning the victory in each matchup. Most recently, the Privateers knocked off the Cyclones on April 20, 2011 by the score of 11-7. Four players for Maritime recorded two goals as
Alexander Korb,
Matthew Messina,
Ryan Korb and
Kevin Winter each rattled the net twice in the victory.
Keith Messina earned the win for the Privateers making nine saves in 58:14 of game time.

UP NEXT
After tomorrow's game, Maritime returns to Madison, N.J. on March 5 to take on the Devils of FDU-Florham for a 7 p.m. start under the lights at Robert T. Shields Field. Centenary plays its official home opener a week from Saturday on March 8 at Cyclone Field against the Lakers of Oswego out of the tough SUNYAC Conference.
