BRONX, N.Y. (Sept. 3, 2013) – The Maritime women's volleyball team lost its season-opening match to local Bronx-rival Lehman College on Tuesday night in straight sets (25-12, 25-10, 25-12). The Lightning recorded 21 service aces collectively throughout the night to help guide them to the victory.
Junior
Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) (Lewes, Del./West Broward) led the way for the Privateers with a team-high seven kills, while junior-transfer
Christine McCormak (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) recorded six digs and six assists to lead the squad. Junior
Sydney Carella (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) chipped in with five digs and two service aces.
For the Lightning, junior Jessica Gonzalez led all players with 16 assists and eight service aces. Classmate Jo-Marie Aquino led the Lightning with eight kills and six assists, while senior Besa Zabelaj had six kills.
Maritime returns to action next Tuesday, Sept. 10, when the Privateers will host the Cougars of Medgar Evers College. First serve will be at 7 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.
