THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 3, 2013) – The Maritime women's volleyball team will play its first match of 2013 tonight at nearby Lehman College. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Lightning's APEX Center.

      The Privateers haven't faced the Lightning since the 2009 season, when they lost a home match by the score of 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 26-24). Dating back to the 2004 season, the teams have met six times and Lehman holds a 6-0 lead in the series.

Ackley Joins Privateer Coaching Staff As Assistant Coach
      Maritime first-year head coach
Alice Kahrs announced an addition to her coaching staff, as
James Ackley will join the sidelines as the Privateers assistant coach.

      Ackley has coached for LIVBC, a local youth club team, since 2011. In the 2013 club season, he coached his team to a second-place finish in their division at the Irish Rumble Tournament in Lancaster, Pa. He also assisted the 2013 18-Blue Team to a third-place finish at the Capital Classic Tournament in Washington, D.C. In 2008, he was an assistant coach for the Boy's Volleyball team at Shoreham-Wading River High School. That season marked the programs first trip to playoffs.

      Ackley earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Programming and Information Systems from Farmingdale State College in 2013 and is currently USA Volleyball IMPACT certified and Gold Medal Squared trained. He is a native of Shorham, N.Y., where he currently resides.
