KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 23, 2013) – The Maritime men's and women's swimming & diving teams took part in the competitive USMMA Invitational on Saturday at the Mariners' O'Hara Pool. The event was not scored and was a chance for the Privateer swimmers to compete in multiple different events that are not a part of the normal dual-meet lineup of races.
Joining Maritime at the event were hosts, Kings Point, and NCAA Division II opponents Adelphi University, Queens College, the University of Bridgeport and Southern Connecticut State University.
The Privateers best finishes of the day came by sophomore
Hayley Hobbs (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) for the women and freshman diver
Chris Deaver (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) for the men.
Hobbs finished in second place in both of the butterfly events, beating out numerous DII swimmers in the process. She had a time of 2:25.45 in her first 200 fly swim of the year and later in the meet finished the 100 fly with a time of 1:02.70. Hobbs also finished in fourth place in the 200 backstroke in 2:31.82.
Deaver finished in second place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 207.60, like Hobbs, he also beat out numerous DII competitors at the meet. He came in third place in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 185.03.
Another notable finish for Maritime was by sophomore
Matthew Cannon (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) (Sparta, N.J./Sparta), who came in sixth place in the 200 back event in 2:12.35.
Also, on Monday, the Skyline Conference announced the weekly honors for the past week and, for the third straight week, Hobbs was named the Women's Swimmer of the Week, while Deaver earned Men's Rookie of the Week Honors.
Two other swimmers landed on their respective weekly honor rolls:

The Privateers return to the pool tomorrow night, Tuesday, Nov. 26, when they travel to Manhattan to take on Baruch College. First race is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Bearcats' ARC Natatorium.
