Scouting the Privateers
Maritime comes in off of its first win of the season last week against Anna Maria by a score of 35-21. The Privateers scored five rushing touchdowns including a pair from both fullback Kyle Gardner and quarterback Ryan Heizman. The defense also played well while keeping one of the top rushing offenses in check last week against Anna Maria.

After a combined 435 yards on the ground against the Amcats last week, the Privateers have now amassed 1,168 yards on the ground on 247 attempts for an average of 4.7 yards per carry. The five rushing touchdowns last week also doubled the team's output to this point in the season for a combined 10 scores on the ground.

Individually it has been Gardner who has led the way carrying the ball with 367 yards on 54 carries and his two touchdowns on the season. Senior Frank Laino and junior Greg Caneparo have also picked up a combined 300+ yards on 31 carries this season from the running back position. Caneparo and Heizman lead the team with three rushing scores each.

Defense has been solid throughout the season for the Privateers as junior Nick Coffiey leads the squad with 33 tackles (26 solo tackles) as well as three forced fumbles. Sophomore Kameron Knight is second on the team with 29 tackles and also has a forced fumble to his credit. Hugh O'Brien had his best game of the season last week as the junior picked up 11 tackles and also had a seven-yard sack. Junior Duke Alvora has 20 tackles, while sophomore Francis Gannon rounds out the top-5 with 15 tackles. Gannon also leads the team with three interceptions.

Last week on special teams, sophomore Diogo Dietrich was perfect on PATs after a 5-for-5 effort, as he now has nine on the season. Dietrich did however miss his lone field goal opportunity of the game against the Amcats. Freshman punter John Arny had his best game of the season with four punts on the game including three inside the opponent's 20-yard line as he picked up 132 yards total for 33 yards per punt.

Scouting the Hawks
Becker's offense has struggled this season, putting up just 15.8 points per game this season including just 28 points in its last three contests. Last week, the Hawks opened up league play with a loss at the hands of the Norwich Cadets by the score of 20-9.

However, the Hawks do have a balanced attack offensively both in the air and on the ground. Senior quarterback Robert Baker leads the aerial attack with 48 completions for 501 yards and five scores but also has three picks to his ledger this season. His favorite target has been classmate Shaun Llewellyn, who has 13 catches for 94 yards but does not have a touchdown. All of Baker's touchdowns have gone to five different receivers.

The rushing duties have been split down the middle between sophomore Matthew Romasco and freshman Romario Vincent as the pair of underclassmen has each carried the ball 41 times this season. Romasco has 174 yards with no touchdowns and a pair of fumbles, while Vincent has 136 yards on the ground with one touchdown and one fumble.

Defensively, three players have 20 or more tackles for the Hawks through four games this season. Freshman Davin Collins and sophomore Josh Lawrence are tied for the squad lead with 22 apiece. Senior Melvin Booker has 20 tackles and is also tied for the team lead with two sacks. Junior Christopher McCarthy (18 tackles, 2 sacks) and freshman Anthony Kaplane (16 tackles, 2 sacks), round out the top five.

Special teams has been an issue for Becker, especially in the kicking department as sophomore Dejahn Dawkins has gone 3-for-6 on extra points and has not attempted a field goal all season. Dawkins also handles the punting duties and has done better in that department as he has picked up 1,002 yards on 27 boots, including five inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
