THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 21, 2012) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team lost to Skyline opponent Farmingdale State, 16-3, Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field in a game that had playoff implications. The Privateers end the season with a 3-13 record (2-4 Skyline), while the Rams earn the #3 seed in the Skyline Tournament and move to 6-8 (4-2 Skyline).
Prior to the action, the Maritime men's lacrosse program paid tribute to its four graduating seniors with a special Senior Day Ceremony. Seniors
Dylan Walsh (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East),
Greg Andrews (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley),
John Driscoll (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) and
Steven Tonn (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) were all joined at midfield by their families and were honored for their hard work and dedication to Maritime Lacrosse.
During the game, the Privateers were led by junior
Kevin Winter (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore), who scored two goals, while classmate
Ryan Schuster (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) added the other score for Maritime. Freshman
Charles Kuhn (North Babylon, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) (North Babylon, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) chipped in with an assist.
Defensively, junior goalie
Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) led the team with four groundballs, while making 20 saves in the losing effort. He was replaced with just under five minutes to play by freshman
Tyler Donovan (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) who made one save.
Farmingdale was led by Ryan Oswald, who tallied four goals and an assist, while Tim Caden also had five points with three goals and two assists. Goalie Patrick Delventhal made eight saves in over three quarters of action to earn the victory.
