THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 4, 2012) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team defeated fellow maritime-industry school, Maine Maritime, 8-4, Sunday afternoon at Reinhart Field. The win was the Privateers' first of the season and improved their record to 1-2, while the Mariners open the season with a 0-1 mark.
Maritime had eight different goal-scorers in the game. Sophomore

Junior goalie
Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) registered the first win of his career after stopping nine shots. He was replaced late in the game by freshman
Tyler Donovan (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge), who made two saves in the final three minutes of the game.
The game was quiet early on, as Maine Maritime struck first nearly three minutes in. The Privateers answered with three straight by Winter, Messina and Kuhn before the end of the first quarter. There was only one more goal before halftime and that was for the visitors, as Maritime went into the locker up 3-2.
The Privateers scored twice more in the third quarter as

James D'Amico (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) registered their goals, Johnson's assisted by senior
John Driscoll (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) and D'Amico's by sophomore
Wess Johnson (Elgin, S.C./Heath Wood Hall) (Elgin, S.C./Heath Wood Hall). The freshman recorded the three fourth-quarter goals for Maritime, as
Mike Johnson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), Winter and D'Amico all picked up assists. Maine Maritime scored two late goals, but the Privateers held on for the victory.
For the Mariners, Andrew DiSalvio (Glastonbury, Conn.) recorded a team-high three points with two goals and one assist. Freshman Brady Harrison (Alfred, Maine) and junior Tom Houle (Manchester, N.H.) scored the other two goals for Maine Maritime. In goal, senior Erik Miles (Bangor, Maine) suffered the loss, despite making six saves on the day.
Maritime will return to action on Wednesday, March 7, when the squad travels to Madison, N.J., to take on FDU-Florham. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Devils' Robert T. Shields Field.
