(Oct. 5, 2012) – The Maritime football team (1-3, 0-1 ECFC) will welcome Eastern Collegiate Football Conference opponent Becker College (2-2, 1-0 ECFC) to The Bronx on Saturday for the Privateers' first league home game of 2012. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Reinhart Field. The football program will be celebrating a very special Military Appreciation Day before and throughout the game.

Privateers Welcome Lieutenant Junior Grade Joe Becker To Perform Honorary Coin Flip
On Saturday, the Privateer football program will welcome football alum
Lieutenant Junior Grade Joe Becker of the United States Navy to be the honorary coin flipper prior to kickoff of the game. Becker graduated Maritime in 2008 after serving as football team captain for three-straight seasons (2005-07). He recently returned home to the United States from a tour of duty overseas, where he was based out of Camp Arifjan in Kuwait.

The Maritime football team enters Saturday's contest with a 1-3 record under eighth-year head coach
Clayton Kendrick-Holmes, including an 0-1 mark in ECFC action. The Privateers opened the season with a 20-14 home win over Mass. Maritime on Sept. 7, but lost the next three games – a 19-14 loss on the road to Kings Point on Sept. 15, a 35-16 loss up at Castleton St. on Sept. 22 and a 21-14 home defeat to William Paterson last Saturday, Sept. 29. Maritime has averaged 290.8 yards of offense per game and scored nine touchdowns, while giving up an average of 348.0 yards, 12 TDs and two field goals.
The team's rushing leader is junior quarterback
Tyler Trodden (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) with 276 yards on the ground and two rushing touchdowns. Junior fullback
Gary Bigham (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles (Fla.)) (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles) is second on the team with 166 yards and four TDs. Trodden is also 30-for-61 on completions for 395 yards with two TDs and five interceptions. Trodden's primary receivers have been seniors

On defense, the Privateers are led by senior linebacker

Duke Alvora (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) rank second and third on the team with 39 and 32 tackles, respectively. Both players also have forced one fumble, apiece. Lasher leads the squad with six tackles for losses of a combined 13 yards.
The punting duties have landed on Alvora this season, who has had some great punts the first four weeks. He has amassed 614 yards on 14 punts for an average of 43.9 yards per punt. His longest of the year came in Week Two on a 76-yard punt that went back for a touchback. He has three punts of 50 or more yards, has landed five inside the opponents' 20-yard line and had two touchbacks. The kickoffs/field goals have been taken by freshman

A Closer Look At The National Rankings
As a team, the Privateers rank in the Top 25 among all NCAA Division III teams in five categories, including ranking fourth in the country in tackles for losses allowed (3.00 per game) and eighth in fewest penalties (3.75 per game). Maritime also ranks 16th in net punting (37.14 average net yards per punt) as well as 17th in two categories: sacks allowed (0.75 per game) and 3rd Down Conversion Defense (24.53%).
Individually,
Keith Barnes (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) ranks third in the nation in solo tackles with 8.5 per game, while his 13.50 solo tackles per game ranks seventh. He also ranks 18th in forced fumbles with .50 per game.
On the other side, Becker is in the Top 25 in the nation in three categories: fifth in red zone defense allowing opponents to score from the red zone only 40% of the time, 13th in fumbles recovered (seven) and 16th in passing offense (318 ypg). Individually, junior quarterback Robert Baker ranks 13th in the nation in passing yards per game with 318, 14th in passing (25 completions per game) and 15th in total passing yards (1,272). Senior wide receiver Luis Sanchez ranks 24th in the country with 105.0 receiving yards per game.
Inside The Series With Becker
Maritime and Becker have met each other six times since the 2006 season and the Privateers hold a 5-1 lead in the series.
Last Time The Two Teams Met
The Privateers defeated the Hawks by the score of 47-19 on Oct. 8, 2011, the last time these two teams met. The game was played up at Becker's campus in Worcester, Mass. Then-juniors

Scouting The Becker Hawks
The Hawks enter Saturday's game with a record of 2-2 under second-year head coach Mike Lichten, including an 1-0 mark in ECFC action. They earned a 13-3 home victory over Fitchburg St. in their first week of action, but dropped their next two games at MIT, 28-21, on Sept. 8 and at Hartwick, 53-41, on Sept. 15. Becker has averaged 387.0 yards of total offense per game and has scored 15 touchdowns, while the defense has allowed an average of 390.8 yards per game, 12 touchdowns and one field goal.
Junior quarterback Robert Baker leads the offense with 1,272 passing yards and is 100-for-174 on completions with 10 touchdowns and four interceptions. Senior Luis Sanchez leads all receivers with 26 catches for 420 yards and two TDs, while sophomore Corinthian Bostic has 25 catches for 340 yards and six touchdowns. On the ground, sophomore Kyle Gregg leads the Hawks with 72 rushing yards and three TDs.
On defense, sophomore Dominick Whitley has a team-high 34 total tackles (28 solo and 6=six assisted) with one for a loss of one yards. Junior Melvin Booker and senior Edward Guerrere rank second and third on the squad with 24 and 23 tackles, respectively. Booker has had 3.5 tackles for losses of a combined 22 yards, including 2.5 sacks for losses of 21 yards, while also forcing two fumbles.
