Offense Explodes In Men’s Lacrosse 21-6 Victory Of Mount Saint Vincent

YONKERS, N.Y. (March 30, 2011) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team, led by senior Alexander Korb (Islip, N.Y./Islip), who matched his career-high with five goals, defeated local Skyline-foe Mount Saint Vincent, 21-6, Wednesday night on the road at Tibbetts Brook Park. The win improves the Privateers' record to 2-6 (1-0 Skyline), while the Dolphins fall to 3-4 (1-1 Skyline).

Sophomore Matthew Messina (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) had a career day with four goals and one assist. Senior Michael Hanratty (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) also had five points for Maritime with three goals and two assists, while classmate Ryan Korb (Islip, N.Y./Islip) scored a hat trick as well. The Privateers had 10 different scorers on the night, while 11 players registered at least one point.

Freshman Andrew Scalesi (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) picked up a team-high five ground balls, and senior Steven Tonn (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) caused a game-high three turnovers. Senior goalie Keith Messina (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) recorded two saves in just over 41 minutes played and earned the victory. He was replaced by freshman Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford), who made four saves in 17:30 of playing time.

The Privateers were a dominant 18-for-26 on faceoffs, led by junior Ryan Honey (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point), who was 8-for-10 from the X with two groundballs. Maritime took a 12-1 lead into the half, thanks in part to outshooting Mount Saint Vincent, 33-6. The Privateers also took advantage of man-up opportunities, scoring on 7-of-16 opps.

The Dolphins were led by senior Mike Shea, who recorded a hat trick in the losing effort. Freshman goalie Kyle Kalibat made 13 saves and gave way to classmate Dom Scipioni.

Maritime returns to action on Saturday, when the team plays host to non-conference opponent Mount Ida. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
