	STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Nov. 23, 2011) – The Maritime men's swimming team won at the College of Staten Island for the first time under head coach 
Pete Vecchio Tuesday night by the score of 132-100. On the women's side, the Privateers narrowly lost to the host Dolphins, 95-92.
	 
	The men used its great depth to capture the victory, as they only won three races on the night, but constantly gathered points in each event with strong finishes after first place. Sophomore 
David Mierzwa (Tonawanda, N.Y./St. Joseph's College) (Tonawanda, N.Y./St. Joseph's College) led the way with two first-place finishes, winning the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:37.49 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:34.79. The 400-free relay team of sophomore 
Dominic Pereira (Jacksonville, Fla./Fletcher) (Jacksonville, Fla./Fletcher), senior 
Ryan Luchsinger (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai), sophomore 
John Crawford (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and junior 
Joe Tucker (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) touched first in 3:44.11.
	 
	On the women's side, two seniors and two freshmen led the team with three first-place finishes. Seniors 
Leighahn Ferrari (Copiague, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) (Copiague, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) and 
Brisa Garrido (Boca Raton, Fla./Chattahoochee) (Boca Raton, Fla./Chattahoochee) were a part of both relay teams that won and each won an individual race – Ferrari won the 50-free (28.59) and Garrido won the 200-breaststroke (3:04.24). Freshmen 
Mariel Vanderlinden (Woodside, N.Y./Dominican Academy) and 
Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) (Lewes, Del./West Broward) were also on the 400-medley relay, while Vanderlinden was a part of the 400-free relay team. Acklin, in her first meet since joining the team at the conclusion of the cross country season, won two individual events, the 200 IM (2:42.66) and the 100-butterfly (1:25.58), while Vanderlinden won the 200-backstroke in 2:37.64.
	 
	The teams will return to action next Wednesday, November 30, when they travel over the bridge to take on Queens College. First race against the Knights is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
