THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 10, 2011) – The Maritime rugby team took on Farleigh Dickinson at its Teaneck Campus on Sunday and beat a great athletic team, 32-3. The Privateers improve to 3-2 overall and in Met NY RFU conference action.
The Maritime defense let a penalty try early in the match and then shut out the big, fast and aggressive FDU squad. The Privateers answered with a try from wing forward
Michael McGuiness (Brooklyn, N.Y./Madison) and then a run by scrum half
Craig Harkins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham).
William O'Neill (Williston Park, N.Y./St. Dominic's) took a counter attack kick and returned it for Maritime's third try.
The Privateers dominated the scrums, 8-4, and were held to eight penalties compared to Dickinson's 12. FDU and Maritime split lineouts 4 and 6, respectively. The Privateer scoring finished with Harkin's two-point conversion, another try by Harkins,
Andrew Gottstein,
Peter Meyer (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) and another penalty try by Harkins.
Maritime returns home to play Stony Brook this Saturday afternoon, Oct. 15, as part of SUNY Maritime College's Homecoming festivities, following the Privateer football game at Reinhart Field.
