THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2010) – The Maritime women's volleyball team lost three conference matches this past week away from campus. The Privateers competed in the Mount St. Vincent Tri-Match with the host Dolphins and Skyline-opponent Mount St. Mary on Sunday, before travelling to Patchogue, Long Island to take on conference-foe St. Joseph's on Tuesday. Maritime's record falls to 0-11 overall and 0-3 in Skyline action.
Over the three matches, the Privateers were led by sophomore Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman), who had a team-best nine kills and six blocks, while also picking up 18 digs. Romero was named to the Skyline Conference women's volleyball weekly honor roll for her performances during last week's matches atgainst Medgar Evers, Mount St. Vincent and Mount St. Mary.
Freshman Megan White (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) recorded a Maritime-best 20 digs over these last three matches, while classmate Natalia Martinez-Colon (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) registered 16 digs.
The Privateers return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 5, when they travel to Manhattan to take on John Jay of the CUNYAC Conference. First serve against the Bloodhounds is scheduled for 6 p.m.
