Rugby Defeats Montclair St., 29-22, On Sunday To Improve To 2-0 Overall

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 13, 2010) – The Maritime rugby team defeated Montclair State, 29-22, Sunday afternoon at home on the friendly confines of Reinhart Field. The win improves the Privateers' record to 2-0 on the season.

In one of the most well-played games of defense and endurance, the Privateers scored early with Mike Bruederlein taking a pass to score the first five-point try. Peter Rose (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) followed with the two-point conversion kick to put Maritime ahead, 7-0, early in the first half.

The contact in this contest was extreme and the scoring was balanced with each team executing fine running and passing. The scrums were evenly won but Maritime's line out-dominated both team through-in's. Captain Mike Bruederlein ran in a total of three try's, Pat Alfisi (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur), ran a try in along with Will Succoso runing the last try with seconds left to put Maritime ahead for good. Rose completed the scoring with a conversion kick. Maritme

Rugby travels next week to play Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
