Men’s Lacrosse Shuts Out Bard, 25-0, For First Skyline Victory

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 7, 2010) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team defeated Skyline Conference-opponent Bard by the score of 25-0 Wednesday night at Reinhart Field. With the victory, the Privateers improve their record to 3-7 (1-1 Skyline), while the Raptors fall to 0-7 (0-2 Skyline).

 

Maritime was led by freshman TJ Fitzsimons (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch) (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), who tallied a game best eight points with five goals and three assists. Two other players had four points for the Privateers: senior Michael Bonanza (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Kent) (Clinton Comers, N.Y.) scored four goals and junior Seth Collins (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) (Owego, N.Y.) recorded two goals and two assists. Maritime had 13 different goal scorers in the game.

 

In net, junior Keith Messina (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) (West Sayville, N.Y.) face no shots on goal from Bard in over two periods of plays but had four fired his way wide or high. He was replaced by freshman Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y.), who played one quarter before being replaced by senior Kevin May (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Dominic) (Hicksville, N.Y.).

 

The Privateers had a commanding 20-0 lead into the break at halftime. Sophomore Thomas Mullady (Centerport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) (Centerport, N.Y.) was the team's leader in ground balls on the night with eight and also scored one and added one assist, while classmate John Driscoll (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y.) recorded seven and had a 12-for-13 mark in the faceoff X with two first half goals and an assist.

 

Junior Alexander Korb (Islip, N.Y./Islip) (Islip, N.Y.) recorded a hat trick and freshman Theo Greene (Pomona, N.Y./New York Military Academy) (Pomona, N.Y.) scored twice to round out the multi-goal scorers for Maritime.

 

The Maritime men's lacrosse team will return to action next Wednesday, April 14, when they travel to face conference-foe Richard Stockton. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Ospreys' G. Larry James Stadium.
