THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2010) – Junior Samantha Easterman (Amityville, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) (Amityville, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) supplied all the offense for the Maritime women's soccer team, as the squad defeated non-conference opponent John Jay, 4-3, Thursday night at Reinhart Field. With the win, the Privateers improve to 3-13 overall on the season, while the Bloodhounds fall to 2-7.

Easterman scored the first three goals of the game within the first 17 minutes of play. Her first goal came in the fourth minute off a corner by junior Kristen Saprotio (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) that found Easterman nine yards out in front of the net. She buried a shot into the back of the net.  In the 10th minute, sophomore Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) raced down the right side of the field and crossed a ball into the box that found Easterman, who blasted it in from five yards out. Just over three minutes later, she gobbled up a rebound and put Maritime up 3-0 with her hat trick goal.

John Jay fought back however and scored two goal just over eight minutes apart before halftime. Freshman Stephanie Ibarra tallied first after brining the ball in from the right side of the 18-yard box and rocketing a shot high that bounced of the Maritime keeper, Andria Thronton's (Saugerties, N.Y./Saugerties) hands and found its way into the left side of the goal. In the 39th minute, Bloodhound freshman Alexis Ochoa made it a one goal game when she stole the ball from a Maritime defender and went in to score a breakaway goal. The Privateers held on to a 3-2 lead into the halftime break.

Just over two minutes into the second half, John Jay erased the three-goal deficit with the equalizing goal by Ochoa again, who found the back of the net after another breakaway. The momentum seemed to shift to the Bloodhounds' side, but in the 68th minute, the ball found Easterman again in the middle of the 18-yard box after a cross in by freshman Alicia Phrachansiri (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata Senior) (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata Senior) and she fired it into the right side of the goal from the PK spot to put the Privateers up, 4-3.

Thornton was very clutch throughout the game for Maritime, making nine saves to preserve the victory. John Jay keeper, sophomore Yuri Giraldo made five saves on the night in the losing effort.

The Privateers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 23, when they play host to conference-foe Sage in their final home game of the 2010 season. Game time against the Gators is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
