Freshman Brendan McGovern of the Maritime basketball team knocked down some key shots on Saturday afternoon to help the Privateers open 2017 with a victory over the Mount St. Mary Knights.

In Saturday's 81-78 victory, the freshman connected on a pair of three-pointers with just 1:31 left in regulation. His first three-pointer gave the Privateers a 76-72 lead, but after the Knights were able to tie the game at 78 McGovern knocked down a three-ball with 2.9 seconds left to give Maritime the victory.
