Biography
At Maritime:
2011: Appeared in 14 games with one assist at home against Richard Stockton on April 6. Also chipped in with 20 ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Joseph is majoring in International Transportation & Trade and is a member of the Regiment of Cadets.
Prior to Maritime:
Played for Monsignor Farrell Lions under coach Steve Lyman and received four letters for the lacrosse team as well as the swimming team. He was the team captain in 2008 and athletics awards and accomplishments include: CHSAA Special-Teams Player of the Year, First Team All-League, First Team All-City, Staten Island Advance All-Stars, broke Monsignor Farrell F/O Percentage record (82%), member of the NYC Empire State Games team, broke Monsignor Farrell season ground ball record (158), 2008 Hustle Award winner, and 2009 Impact Player Award winner. He led his team to four straight championships as well as a Mayor’s Cup title, and placed third in the NY Metro League. Joseph has made the Dean’s List and was part of the Special Olympics Organization.
Personal:
Joey “One-Wheel,” as his teammates call him, is son to Angela and Victor VIllareal. He has a 23-year-old brother named Victor who attends the College of Staten Island, and a 15-year-old sister named Rosemarie who attends Saint Joseph Hill and is on the swimming team. He chose Maritime for the great career opportunities and alumni network. The people he admires the most are student assistant coaches Jonathan Miracolo and Kenny Powers. His favorite athlete is Ray Lewis and his pre-game routine includes, eating a banana and double-checking his socks.
