Ron Bethea enters his third season on the sidelines as a member of the Maritime Basketball coaching staff for the 2015-16 season.
Bethea became a member of the Maritime coaching staff following a one-season stint on the court for the Privateers in 2012-13, a season that ended with Bethea being selected as the team's Most Valuable Player at the conclusion of the season.
On the court, he was ranked fourth amongst Skyline Conference players with 17.8 points per season as he collected 410 points over 23 games, all while averaging more than 35 minutes per contest. During his senior campaign, he started in all but two contests finish the season tied for the team lead with 21 starts.
In addition to his minutes played and points scored, Bethea ended the year leading the team in rebouds with 119 on the season, including a team-best 103 defensive boards. He was also second on the team in 2012-13 with 38 assists, while picking up a team-high 12 blocks and also collected 26 assists to finish fourth on the squad.
Prior to his arrival at Maritime, Bethea attended St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, N.Y. He saw time in 17 of the team's 26 contests while averaging just under 16 minutes per appearance with the Spartans in 2011-12.
Before his stint with STAC, Bethea was a member of the 2010-11 SUNY Delhi men's basketball squad in Delhi, N.Y., where he averaged 11.2 points per game in 33 games. That season, he was a member of a Broncos squad that finished the season with a 30-5 overall record, en route to an NJCAA Region 3 Championship before finishing sixth in the NJCAA Touranment. That followed a freshman season at Delhi, that saw the team finish 15-16 overall, where Bethea averaged 9.8 points per game, while playing every game that season.
Bethea is a native of Harlem, N.Y. and atteneded Humanities Preparatory Academy in the Chelsea Section of Manhattan.
