Jake Scott will enter his fifth season at the helm of the Maritime Basketball program for the 2016-17 year.
In his fourth year with the program, Scott helped lead the team to eight victories on the year with all eight coming in league games. As a squad the team set program records for both assists in a season as well as blocks in a year while Patrick MacDonald '18 set the single-season mark for rebounds during the year. Following the season, MacDonald was a Skyline All-Conference First Team selection, Maritime's first since the 2011-12 campaign.
During his third season, he guided the team to six victories, doubling its win total from the year prior. Scott oversaw senior Sean Corley lead the Skyline in both assists and steals, while sophomore Isaiah Hayes was tops in the Skyline in blocked shots, with rookie Patrick MacDonald leading the league in field goal percentage in 2015. Senior T'Vaughn Gibson also reached 1,000 career points under the tutelage of Scott on February 14 against Purchase.
In his second season as coach, Scott guided his young team to a split in the inaugural Admiral's Classic to start off the season as the team hosted an in-season tournament for the first time since the 2007-08 season. The team's victory in the Admiral's Classic was a 30-point victory over Sarah Lawrence, the largest margin of victory by a Privateer squad since December of 2008.
In 2012-13, Scott picked up the first win of his collegiate coaching career against Vaughn in a 69-60 win in January of that season. Later that month, the team put together a three-game winning streak againt Skyline Conference opponents Mount St. Vincent, NYU-Poly and St. Joseph's.
Scott came to Maritime after spending the last three seasons as an assistant basketball coach at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
While at RIT, Scott was responsible for planning team practices and also implemented a new off-season training program for the student-athletes. He also helped the basketball program by scouting and recruiting student-athletes. Scott has coached four All-Liberty League players: Justin Heisig, Scott Young, Anthony Terry and Brendan Harder.
After earning his bachelor’s degree in sport studies from St. John Fisher in 2005, Scott became a graduate assistant coach at Division I Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., under current Duke Associate Head Coach Jeff Capel. Scott developed scouting reports and helped in the recruiting aspect. In 2006, Scott earned his master’s degree from VCU in sport leadership.
Later in 2006, Scott became the junior varsity head coach at Atlee High School in Mechanicsville, Va. The following season, he earned the head varsity basketball coaching and athletic director positions at nearby Amelia Academy. He coached the squad to an 18-10 record and a second-place finish in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference and earned a quarterfinal appearance in the VISAA State Playoffs.
An avid runner, Scott has also competed in numerous running events at the 10K, 15K and Half Marathon distance. He currently resides in Manhattan, N.Y. with his wife Caitlin.
