Al Piascik concluded his sixth season on the Maritime Football coaching staff after the 2013 season.
This past season he moved from Defensive Backs Coach to Linebackers Coach. He also takes on full responsibility as Special Teams Coordinator after sharing these duties in 2012.
Piascik is also the Assistant Head Coach, a title he added after the 2008 season. He was the natural selection to be promoted to Interim Head Coach after the 2010 season for Coach Kendrick-Holmes’ mobilization to Afghanistan and he kept Privateer Football on track for the 2011 season preparing the team for an 8-2 effort. Piascik was named the 2012 D3 Senior Classic head coach where he led the North squad for the post-season game. His experience in leading and running all facets of a football program as a head coach has proven to be a tremendous benefit to the team.
Piascik also serves as the college Strength and Conditioning Coach and the undefeated, 2010 season highlighted his accomplishments as a Strength and Conditioning football expert. His off-season lifting and running program had the team prepared for their season and a record breaking year. Piascik has continually set high standards for the Privateers and the team regularly sets lifting records at every position.
Well known for player development, Piascik’s charges have garnered 6 All-ECFC mentions in 4 seasons. In the spring of 2008, Piascik took a young wide receiver in Sean Wiggers and turned him into a Second Team All-ECFC performer during the 2009 campaign and in 2011 Jeremy Garcia emerged as the Most Improved Player on defense and received Second Team All-ECFC recognition. In 2012, both Garcia and Chris Klass earned All-ECFC honors as cornerbacks.
The past several seasons, Piascik’s pass defense has been one of the top in the nation finishing 11th in 2012, 2nd in 2011 and 8th in 2009. In 2011, the defense finished 8th nationally in Total Defense and 34th in Scoring Defense and both statistical accomplishments were ECFC and program bests. In 2012, the defense again posted a top Total Defense finishing 36th out of 238 teams.
Piascik’s 2010 defensive backfield was a catalyst for the undefeated season with Steve Roman and Sean Wiggers leading the ECFC in interceptions and both garnered All-Conference accolades. The defensive backfield came up with slew of big plays making key stops to close out games against Kings Point, Mount Ida, and Gallaudet.
Prior to Maritime, Piascik coached for three seasons at Pace University, his last two as the Setter’s Defensive Coordinator. His 2006 linebacker unit helped lead the nation in Turnover Margin for Division II.
A 2003 graduate of St. Lawrence University, Piascik earned a degree in Mathematics while participating on the football and track teams. In 2010 he received a Master's degree in Educational Leadership, also from St Lawrence University.
