Biography
2018-19: Started in all 25 games for the Privateers during his sophomore campaign and saw improvement at the point guard position as he averaged 10 points per game and 4.6 assists per game. He was third on the team in scoring and first in assists while also posting an impressive 45.5 field goal percentage. Whelan got off to a hot start as he recorded 16 points and eight assists in the second game of the year and then a double-double the next game with 11 points and 11 assists. Two games later he recorded a new career-high in points with 20 in a road matchup against SUNY New Paltz. He continued to be an offensive weapon throughout the year for the Privateers as he averaged 30 minutes per game. His conference season was highlighted with 10 assists in a win against USMMA at home and 16 and 17 point performances in road games against Sarah Lawrence and St. Joseph's LI, respectively.
2017-18: Started in all 25 games for the Privateers during his freshman season…was third on the team in minutes played as he averaged 31.4 minutes per game as a rookie…was fifth on the team in scoring with 130 points…ended the year second on the team with 88 assists and was fifth on the team with 79 rebounds…led the squad with 33 steals…opened the season with eight points, two assists and three rebounds in his first collegiate game against York (N.Y.) (11/15)…had nine points and three steals with five assists at Mitchell (11/26)…tallied four points and four assists at Lehman (11/27)…notched four points, five assists and three boards at Yeshiva (12/19)…picked up a season-best 12 points and also had five rebounds against Mount St. Mary (1/2)…picked up eight points and five assists at home against Merchant Marine (1/8)…tallied eight more assists versus Old Westbury (1/20)…recorded eight points and three assists along with four rebounds against St. Joseph’s (LI) (1/23)…had 10 points at Mount St. Vincent (1/27)…had five points with four assists and a season-high eight rebounds against Purchase (2/7)…had five points and four assists against New Rochelle (2/11)…finished the year with a season-best nine assists and also had seven rebounds in the season finale against Sarah Lawrence (2/17).
