THROGGS NECK, NY – Freshman outside hitter Laci Werner (New York, NY) of the Maritime College volleyball team has been selected as the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week.  She had 24 kills, one shy of the single-match program record, in the five-set loss to Brooklyn on Thursday night.

Werner hit .400 against the Bulldogs, making just six errors in 45 total attempts.  She added 10 digs for her second collegiate double-double.  On Tuesday night at Baruch, meanwhile, Werner finished with seven kills, six digs and two service aces.  Across the two matches, she averaged 3.88 kills per set on .333 hitting.

For the season, Werner leads the Privateers with 3.47 kills per set, which ranks second in the conference.  Her 66 total kills, meanwhile, are third-most in the Skyline.  Werner is also second on the squad in digs, averaging 2.79 per set.

Maritime (0-5) returns to action on Tuesday, when Albertus Magnus (2-3) visits Riesenberg Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
