MADISON, NJ – After scoring a combined 47 runs in two conference doubleheaders over the weekend, the Maritime College baseball team's offense kept firing on all cylinders in Tuesday's non-conference matchup at FDU-Florham. All nine starters had a hit, a run scored and an RBI, as the Privateers (15-11) pounded out 20 hits in a 22-8 victory over the Devils (14-16) at Naimoli Ballpark.
David Granucci (Medford, NY) finished a home run short of the cycle. He went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and six RBIs.
Alex Bardi (Wantagh, NY), meanwhile, was 3-for-4 with a homer, five RBIs and three runs scored.
Dominick Viggiano (Miller Place, NY) also had three hits and scored three times.
Harry Leipold (Thornwood, NY) and
Guytano Kiesel (Bayport, NY) both crossed the plate three times, and
Randy Ventura (Syosset, NY) collected three RBIs.
Four Maritime pitchers were the beneficiaries of all that offense.
Andrew Heiderstadt (Farmingdale, NY) got the start and tossed three innings. He allowed three runs on five hits and two walks.
Luke Martinez (Mineola, NY) (2-1) picked up the win after yielding five runs (three earned) on four hits with two walks and a strikeout in 1.1 innings.
Andrew Cavagnaro (Staten Island, NY) threw 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out two, before
Jack Kellner (Seaford, NY) gave up two hits and recorded a strikeout in one inning of work.
FDU-Florham scored the game's first run in the bottom of the second, but the Privateers responded with a three-spot in the top of the third. Granucci delivered an RBI double before Bardi's single knocked in two. After the Devils tied it on Matthew Bond's two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning, Maritime erupted for 10 runs in the fourth. The Privateers had 10 hits in the inning, with Ventura knocking in three runs on a pair of singles.
Maritime added three more in the fifth to increase their advantage to 16-4. FDU-Florham responded with four in its half of the inning, though, to pull within 16-8. However, the Privateers put up another crooked number in the sixth, adding six more runs to go up 22-8. The big blow in the inning was Granucci's three-run triple. With Maritime still holding a 22-8 lead after seven innings, the contest came to an early conclusion.
John Rolli paced the FDU-Florham offense with three hits. Andrew Parisi was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Parker Muratore ended up 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Brayden Rakov started on the mound for the Devils and lasted two innings. He surrendered three runs on two hits, walked one and struck out one. Alex Hart (1-2) took the loss after yielding five runs on five hits in 1.1 innings. He was credited with one strikeout.
The Privateers now have more than a week off before returning to action. Maritime welcomes CCNY (8-15) to Reinhart Field at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22.
