Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Privateers Top Manhattanville

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's basketball team notched its fourth win in five games on Tuesday night.  Four players scored in double figures, as the Privateers (9-7, 5-2 Skyline) recorded a 78-68 triumph over Manhattanville (8-8, 3-4 Skyline) at Riesenberg Gymnasium.

Zion Williams (Indianapolis, IN) paced Maritime with 22 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists.  Jake Devaney (Washingtonville, NY), meanwhile, had his third double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 boards.  He added four blocks and matched his career-high with five steals.  Sean Kivlan (Floral Park, NY) and Jesse Tricario (New Hyde Park, NY) contributed 10 points apiece off the bench, and Evan Block (Seaford, NY) grabbed a career-best 17 rebounds.  Tyler Anderson (Smithtown, NY) handed out five assists for the Privateers, who shot a combined 46.5 percent (33-of-71) from the field.  Maritime was 5-for-27 (18.5 percent) from long range and 7-for-12 (58.3 percent) at the charity stripe.

It was a back-and-forth game early on, as there were seven ties and 12 lead changes in the first half.  A Williams layup gave the Privateers a 20-18 advantage at the 10:55 mark before the Valiants used a 10-2 spurt to go up 28-22.  However, Williams was fouled on a layup and drained the free throw to spark a 9-2 Maritime run that put the Privateers back in front, 31-30.  He sank a trey with 16 seconds left in the half to increase the cushion to 38-33 at the break.

Maritime then opened the second half by tallying 10 of the first 13 points to extend the margin to 48-36.  After Manhattanville got back within 48-42, the Privateers went on a 12-5 rally to make it 60-47 with 9:22 remaining.  The Valiants trimmed their deficit to eight at 62-54 before a Block putback started a 14-2 run that gave Maritime its largest lead of the night, 76-56, with 3:39 left.  Manhattanville ended the contest on a 12-2 spurt to close within 78-68 at the finish.  It was the Privateers' fourth consecutive win over the Valiants.

For Manhattanville, Chris Robinson led the way with 18 points.  Isiah Middleton finished with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals, while John Ranaghan had 13 points and four steals.  Andrew Saint-Louis, a Second Team All-Skyline player last season, was held to just two points on 1-for-6 shooting.  As a team, the Valiants shot 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the floor, 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from downtown, and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) at the free throw line.

Up next for Maritime is a 12 p.m. matchup at Purchase (5-12, 3-5 Skyline) on Saturday.  It will mark the start of a span where the Privateers play six of their final nine regular season games on the road.
