THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College women's soccer team (3-4-0, 2-3-0 Skyline) snapped its three-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Purchase (3-5-0, 2-3-0 Skyline) at Reinhart Field on Tuesday.
Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) scored twice in the win, giving her 11 goals on the season.
After a scoreless first half, Garcia was fouled in the box two minutes into the second half. She stepped up to take the penalty kick and buried it to give the Privateers a 1-0 lead. Garcia added another tally four minutes later on a beautiful give-and-go play from
Divine Awoleke (Queens, NY). With seven seconds remaining in the contest, Awoleke put away her first collegiate goal, capping the scoring in the 3-0 triumph.
Garcia had her third multi-goal game of the season, and she also recorded an assist on Awoleke's tally. With her 11 goals, Garcia moved into the top five on the NCAA leaderboard. Her three game-winners, meanwhile, are tied for the fifth-most in the NCAA, one behind the national leaders.
Goalkeeper
Estela Quintero (Oceanside, NY) (3-4-0) tallied double-digit saves for the third consecutive game, stopping 10 of the Panthers' shots. Jill Creegan (1-2-0) took the loss for Purchas after making four saves in 64 minutes between the pipes. Carolyn Hough was credited with three saves and allowed one goal over the final 26 minutes.
Up next for the Privateers is a 2:30 p.m. matchup at Old Westbury (4-4-0, 1-3-0 Skyline) on Saturday. It will mark the start of a span where Maritime plays four out of five on the road.
