THROGGS NECK, NY – Despite 15 saves by
Estela Quintero (Oceanside, NY), the Maritime College women's soccer team (2-4-0, 1-3-0 Skyline) suffered a 3-0 loss against Merchant Marine (4-3-2, 4-0-1 Skyline) at Reinhart Field on Saturday afternoon. Quintero's 15 saves were the most by a Privateers goalkeeper since Liz Pomaro had 16 at Farmingdale on Sept. 14, 2021.
The Mariners got on the board in the 14
th minute, when Kennedy Crovo sent one past Quintero (2-4-0) from the edge of the box. It would remain 1-0 until Morgan Mitchell doubled Merchant Marine's advantage in the 57
th minute. Ruby Karls then put home a rebound after Lauren Enterline's 72
nd-minute shot was wide to cap the scoring in the Mariners' 3-0 victory.
Eva Fields (3-3-2) earned the win in goal for Merchant Marine. Quintero (2-4-0), meanwhile, took the loss.
On Tuesday, Maritime returns to action with a 7 p.m. matchup against Purchase (3-4-0, 2-2-0 Skyline) at Reinhart Field. The Privateers will host the Panthers for the second straight season and the third time in four years.
