Thomas Gallagher continued a long line of All-America sailors, being honored by the Intercollegiate Sailing Association in 1975. The Privateers were consistently rated among the top 10 teams in all of college sailing during that time, including a No. 1 ranking for several weeks in 1973. Since graduation, Gallagher has enjoyed a successful career as a ship broker, and he is currently a Partner and Managing Director of Shipping & Finance LTD.
Thomas Merrell helped establish the Maritime football program and served as the team's first captain. He scored the first touchdown in program history and was named MVP while setting numerous school records at quarterback. A lifelong supporter of the Privateers, he was a founding member of the Maritime Football Boosters Club and continues to support both the College and its athletic program.
AJ McAllister anchored the Privateers' blue line with his toughness, consistency and shot-blocking ability. He was also an offensive threat who provided many timely goals, particularly on special teams. A highly respected leader both among his teammates and opponents, McAllister built a successful career with the McAllister Towing Company and is currently a member of the SUNY Maritime College Foundation Board.
James Perduto earned all-conference honors all four years and was the 1990 Knickerbocker League Player of the Year. A three-year team captain, he also rowed for three years while at Maritime. After graduation, Perduto spent 30 years in the United States Navy. In 1997, he helped organize the first Men's Lacrosse Alumni Game, which has become an annual tradition at Homecoming.
Andrew McCarthy played both soccer and basketball during his time on Fort Schuyler. A four-year starter and all-conference performer in both sports, he captained the soccer team to a conference title in 1995 and was selected as Maritime's 1995-96 Male Athlete of the Year. McCarthy also reached the 1,000-point plateau in basketball during his senior year. After serving on active duty in the U.S. Navy and sailing in the merchant marine, he became the Privateers' head men's soccer coach in 2003. McCarthy was named Skyline Coach of the Year in 2010, when he led Maritime to its first-ever Skyline championship and NCAA Tournament berth. The team would repeat as conference champions and return to the NCAA Tournament in 2011.
Donald "DJ" Toby graduated as the men's lacrosse program's all-time leader in goals, assists, points, ground balls and faceoff percentage. The first player in school history to score 100 career goals, his 84 assists still stood as the program record until broken last season. A four-time First Team All-Skyline performer, Toby was the 2004 Skyline Rookie of the Year and 2008 Skyline Player of the Year. That season, he became the Privateers' second-ever All-American and participated in the USILA North-South All-Star Game.
Marissa Danzy was one of the most versatile athletes in Maritime College history. A team captain in both basketball and volleyball, she was also a member of the Privateers' softball team. Danzy averaged nearly 10 rebounds per game as a basketball player, and she ranks second on the volleyball program's all-time list with 172 career blocks. Her contributions extended beyond the court. Danzy was a founding member of the Maritime Athletics Advisory Board and served on the board of the Maritime College Alumni Association, as well.
In addition, the
2010 Football Team will be honored as a group. Under the guidance of Head Coach
Clayton Kendrick-Holmes, the Privateers made the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history that season after going a perfect 10-0 during the regular season. Maritime won the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) championship, and 16 players earned All-ECFC honors, led by Defensive Player of the Year Keith Barnes.
Kendrick-Holmes, meanwhile, received multiple Coach of the Year awards and was one of five finalists for the 2010 national Division III Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year. He was named the Privateers' first head coach when the program was revived in 2006 and spent 12 seasons at the helm. Maritime went 63-55 overall and 40-22 in ECFC play during his tenure, making three postseason appearances.
Tickets for the induction ceremony are now available for a cost of $95, with discounts available for faculty/staff and students. The price includes dinner and a beer/wine open bar.
