Privateers Stumble at Endicott

BEVERLY, MA – The Maritime College football team traveled to face 2024 NCAA Tournament participant Endicott on Saturday afternoon.  The Gulls (2-1) built a 28-0 halftime lead and held the Privateers (2-1) to just 144 yards of total offense en route to a 41-7 victory at Hempstead Stadium.

Endicott scored on its first drive of the game, then added three second-quarter touchdowns.  Maritime, meanwhile, punted on each of its first five drives and posted a mere 81 total yards in the first half.

Midway through the third quarter, the Gulls had a 1st-and-goal at the Privateers' 1 when Aidan Griffin (Queens, NY) intercepted Shea Lynch's pass in the end zone and returned it 82 yards to the Endicott 18.  That set up Maritime's only TD of the day.  On 4th-and-goal from the Gulls' 1, Will Pickett (Rockville Centre, NY) found paydirt to bring the Privateers within 28-7.  Endicott closed out its 41-7 win with a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Pickett finished 10-for-19 passing for 68 yards.  He also had 13 yards on 11 carries and scored his sixth rushing TD of the year.  Joshua Rogers (Valley Stream, NY) led Maritime with 60 rushing yards, while Nate Casaburi (Sayville, NY) made a team-high five catches.  Gino Fundaro (Levittown, NY) paced the Privateers with eight tackles, and Griffin recorded seven tackles to go along with his ninth career interception.

For the Gulls, Lynch went 21-for-27 passing for 240 yards and three touchdowns.  Endicott tallied 296 yards on the ground, with Bryan Ferreira notching 82 rushing yards on 15 carries.  Jayson Little, meanwhile, had five receptions for 86 yards and a score.  Joe Tirrell's seven tackles were a team-best.

This was Maritime's final non-conference game of the season.  The Privateers begin New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play by visiting Salve Regina (3-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) next Saturday at 1 p.m.
