THROGGS NECK, NY – Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) recorded her third career hat trick on Friday, as the Maritime College women's soccer team (1-0-0) began the 2025 campaign with a 4-2 triumph over Brooklyn (0-1-0) at Reinhart Field. It was the Privateers' third straight season-opening win over the Bulldogs and sixth consecutive season-opening victory overall.
Brooklyn got on the board first when Imani Dickens found the back of the net in the 16
th minute, but Maritime responded just 13 seconds later. After a shot by
Sara Williams (Oceanside, NY) was stopped, the rebound went right to the foot of Garcia. She put it away into the empty net to level the score at 1-1, and it would remain that way until the 50
th minute, when Julianna Elkins put the Bulldogs back in front.
In the 60
th minute,
Ava Morrill (New Windsor, NY) sent a long pass to Garcia, who ran down the left side and sent on past goalkeeper Siul Mancebo. Garcia banged one off the post and in to complete the hat trick in the 73
rd minute.
Lacey Baric (Fort Lee, NJ) then made it 4-2 in the 81
st minute with a turnaround blast from just outside the box.
Baric also had an assist on Garcia's final tally to finish with three points in her first collegiate debut. Also making her debut for the Privateers was goalkeeper
Estela Quintero (Oceanside, NY) (1-0-0), who was credited with eight saves in a winning effort.
Mancebo (0-1-0) tallied five saves for Brooklyn. Dickens, meanwhile, paced the Bulldogs' offense with a goal and an assist.
Maritime was originally scheduled to visit York on Tuesday afternoon, but that game has been cancelled. The Privateers now have more than a week off before returning to action at Centenary (0-1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 12 p.m.
