Maritime Routs CCNY In Non-Conference Finale

THROGGS NECK, NY – After putting up 19 runs in the second game of a doubleheader at St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Saturday, the Maritime College baseball team's offense kept it up in the non-conference finale against CCNY on Monday night.  The Privateers (17-12) scored three times in each of the first four innings en route to a 20-3 victory over the Beavers (8-8) at Reinhart Baseball Field.

David Granucci (Medford, NY) roped an RBI single during Maritime's three-run first, then came up with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second and delivered a double down the right field line that made it 6-0.  The Privateers' advantage reached 9-0 in the third when Alex Bardi (Wantagh, NY) doubled in a run and Michael Frazzetta (Howard Beach, NY) followed with a homer to right center.  A CCNY error led to three unearned tallies in the fourth, increasing Maritime's lead to 12-0.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Privateers sent 12 batters to the plate, and six of them came around to score.  After the Beavers walked the bases loaded, a run scored when Joey Goodman (Merrick, NY) reached on a fielder's choice before Logan Martinson (Sumner, WA) drew a walk.  Ryan Wood (Huntington Station, NY) and Alex Guzman (Holliswood, NY) delivered RBI singles, then two more bases-loaded walks to Ian Wilson (Bayonne, NJ) and Chris Bartlett (Glen Head, NY) extended Maritime's cushion to 19-2.  The Privateers added an unearned run in the eighth, while Victor Murra Schott homered for CCNY in the top of the ninth.

With the 20-3 victory, Maritime has scored 39 runs in its last two outings.  The Privateers also tied this season's NCAA single-game high by walking 19 times in the contest.

Fourteen of the 15 players who came to the plate for Maritime drew at least one walk, and 11 different Privateres scored at least one run (with nine of those 11 coming across twice).  Granucci finished 2-for-4 with a double, two walks, two runs scored and four RBIs.  Frazzetta, meanwhile, was 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Frank Santeramo (Garden City, NY) made the start on the mound and tossed four shutout innings to earn his first win since April 7, 2024.  Santeramo (1-2) allowed just one hit and one walk while tallying four strikeouts.  Colin McKeon (Mullica Hill, NJ), Joe Sorge (Montgomery, NY), Sean Mylan (Lynbrook, NY), Haydn Strycharz (Pittstown, NJ) and Jack Kellner (Seaford, NY) each threw an inning out of the bullpen.  The quintet combined to strike out 15 Beavers.

Murra Schott went 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored for CCNY.  Jason Rodriguez also hit a long ball, while Kevin Budzinksi was 2-for-4 with a double.  Starting pitcher Gerard Molinaro (0-2) took the loss after surrendering six runs on three hits and seven walks over two innings.  He was credited with one strikeout.

On Friday, Maritime (8-2 Skyline) welcomes Yeshiva (1-19, 0-12 Skyline) to Reinhart Baseball Field for a 10 a.m. twinbill.  It will mark the start of a busy span that sees the Privateers playing six conference games over three consecutive days.
