THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's lacrosse team welcomed Stevens to Reinhart Field on Wednesday night. It was a 7-5 game midway through the third quarter before the Ducks (3-0) rattled off eight consecutive goals to pull away for a 17-7 victory over the Privateers (1-2).
After Stevens got on the board first,
Nicholas Uzakewicz (Hauppauge, NY) tied the score at the 9:50 mark of the first quarter. However, the Ducks notched the next three tallies to open up a 4-1 advantage. With Stevens leading 5-2,
Luke Caliendo (North Babylon, NY) and
Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY) found the back of the net to pull Maritime within 5-4. The Ducks added another goal to take a 6-4 cushion into halftime.
Matthew Pergola made it 7-4 early in the third quarter, but Reilly responded with an unassisted goal with 11:51 left in the period to pull the Privateers within 7-5. Stevens scored five times in the final 4:14 of the quarter, though, to extend its lead to 12-5. The Ducks eventually increased the margin to 15-5 before Reilly snapped the Stevens run. After the Ducks posted two more goals,
Connor Tomich (Sayville, NY) capped the scoring with 1:53 left in Maritime's 17-7 defeat.
Reilly
led the Privateers with three goals.
Nick LiPuma (Bayport, NY) had a goal and an assist, while
Ryan Hannaford (Bayport, NY) distributed two assists. In addition to making 17 saves,
Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) (1-2) collected a team-high seven ground balls.
Jack Baingan (Port Jefferson, NY) added four ground balls and two caused turnovers for Maritime.
Joseph Grippo scored four times and Shea Grant also recorded a hat trick for Stevens. Finlay MacKnight, meanwhile, was credited with a goal and four assists. Pergola notched four ground balls and two caused turnovers to go along with a pair of goals. Ford Carney picked up six of the Ducks' 46 ground balls, and Nick DeNave caused four turnovers. Cooper Foote (3-0) got the start in goal and posted six saves in a winning effort.
On Monday, the Privateers travel to New Paltz (0-1) for a 3 p.m. contest. The game was originally scheduled for Feb. 19, but was postponed due to weather and poor field conditions.
