Maritime Extends Winning Streak to Seven

PURCHASE, NY – The Maritime College men's basketball team entered Saturday's matchup at Manhattanville riding a six-game winning streak.  The Privateers (12-5, 8-0 Skyline) ended the first half on a 26-5 run and led by as many as 20 points in the second half en route to their seventh straight victory, 64-51 over the Valiants (6-11, 2-6 Skyline) at Kennedy Gymnasium.

Theo Noble (Bronx, NY) had 15 of his game-high 19 points in the first half.  Jake Murphy (Rockville Centre, NY) finished with 17 points and five rebounds, and Tyler Anderson (Smithtown, NY) tallied 11 points to go along with three steals.  Jake Devaney (Washingtonville, NY) matched his career-high with 15 boards, as Maritime held a 48-36 edge on the glass.  Jesse Tricario (New Hyde Park, NY) pulled down eight boards, while Evan Block (Seaford, NY) contributed seven rebounds.  As a team, the Privateers shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) from the field, 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from three-point range, and 65 percent (13-of-20) at the free throw line.

Maritime scored the first six points of the game, but Manhattanville responded with a 6-0 run of its own.  After the Privateers got a pair of buckets from Noble, the Valiants countered with a John Ranaghan trey and a Carlos Urena layup to go up, 11-10.  However, Murphy hit a jumper at the 9:38 mark of the first half to put Maritime back in front for good.

Manhattanville pulled within four at 17-13 with 7:13 left in the half before Noble sank a three-pointer to start a 15-0 Privateers rally.  Maritime held the Valiants scoreless for more than six minutes and opened up a 32-13 advantage on Tricario's layup with 1:43 remaining until halftime.  The margin was 18 points, 34-16, at the break.

After Manhattanville opened the second half with a layup, a jumper by Murphy and two Noble free throws gave the Privateers their largest lead of the game, 38-18.  Maritime still held a 19-point advantage with 1:38 left before the Valiants sank a pair of late treys to make the final margin 13 points, 64-51.  The Privateers' seven-game winning streak is their longest since the 2009-10 season.

For Manhattanville, Andrew Saint-Louis led the way with 10 points.  He also registered four rebounds and four assists.  Ranaghan posted nine points and five boards, while Jack Scanlon contributed five rebounds, three assists and three steals.  The Valiants were held to just 26.6 percent (17-of-64) shooting, including 27 percent (10-of-37) from downtown.  Manhattanville went 7-for-10 (70 percent) at the charity stripe.

Each of Maritime's next two games are at Riesenberg Gymnasium, starting with a 7 p.m. contest against Purchase (9-8, 5-3 Skyline) on Wednesday.
