Ford, Garcia Post Hat Tricks In Dominant Victory

NEWARK, NJ – The Maritime College women's soccer team scored its most goals since 2019 and had its largest margin of victory in nearly five years on Tuesday night.  Four different Privateers found the back of the net, including hat tricks by Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) and Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY), as Maritime (2-0-0, 1-0-0 Skyline) began Skyline Conference play with a 9-0 victory over Yeshiva (0-1-0, 0-1-0 Skyline) at Frederick Douglass Field.

It took Garcia only 30 minutes to post her hat trick.  She opened the scoring in the seventh minute, then added another tally in the 13th minute before an own goal made it 3-0.  After Garcia found the back of the net for a third time, the Privateers added two more before halftime.  Ford assisted on a Sara Williams (Oceanside, NY) goal in the 41st minute and picked up a goal of her own 37 seconds later.

Ford had a hand in each of Maritime's last five goals, including all three second-half tallies.  She was credited with the assist on Hannah Crown's (Athens, NY) score in the 53rd minute, then took a feed from Ava Morrill (New Windsor, NY) less than a minute later.  In the 60th minute, Ford completed her fourth career hat trick and first since Sept. 1, 2023 against Brooklyn.

This marks the first time that two Privateers each posted a hat trick in the same game since Sara Wright scored seven goals and Gayle Woods added three against Yeshiva in an 11-0 win on Oct. 25, 2019.  The Privateers' nine goals on Tuesday might, meanwhile, were their most since topping the Maccabees 10-3 on Oct. 19, 2021.

With the victory, Maritime is now 2-0-0 to start the season for the second straight year.  The Privateers also won their third consecutive Skyline opener.

Devon Etienne (Garden City, NY) (2-0-0) played the first 63 minutes in goal and was credited with the win.  Marina Bjazevic Couto (Sao Paulo, Brazil) saw her first action of the season, closing out the shutout with 27 minutes in the net.  Richae Gibson (Sanford, FL) and Natalie Boeri (Smithtown, NY), meanwhile, each registered an assist.

Maritime was originally scheduled to return to action at Lehman on Thursday, but that game has been postponed.  As a result, the Privateers will now have a week off before hosting Saint Elizabeth (1-0-1) next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the back end of a doubleheader with the men's team at Reinhart Field.
