Privateers Upended By Defending Champion Dolphins

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College women's soccer team took on defending Skyline Conference champion Mount St. Vincent at Reinhart Field on Friday.  The Dolphins (4-3-1, 3-0-1 Skyline) led 2-0 at halftime before pulling away in the second half for a 10-0 victory over the Privateers (4-4-0, 1-4-0 Skyline).

Mount St. Vincent got on the board just 28 seconds into the game and added another tally in the ninth minute.  Maritime goalkeeper Devon Etienne (Garden City, NY) kept it at 2-0, however, as she made seven first-half saves.  Etienne had to leave with an injury on the Dolphins' third goal early in the second half, and Mount St. Vincent added seven more tallies over the next 35 minutes.

Maritime's best scoring chance came in the 66th minute.  Kiera Ford's (Montgomery, NY) shot sailed high, though.  Ford also put three attempts on net, but each was stopped by the Mount St. Vincent goalkeeper.  The Dolphins used a trio of goalkeepers in the match, with Javiera Sanchez (4-2-1) starting and getting credit for the win.  Aubrey Gulbin was the only Mount St. Vincent player to score twice, while Ima Kellerman posted a goal and an assist.

Etienne (4-4-0) took the loss for the Privateers, who were outshot 42-6 in the game.  Marina Bjazevic Couto (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tallied two saves in 14 minutes of action, while Jamie Kibler (Throggs Neck, NY) stopped eight Mount St. Vincent shots in 28 minutes between the pipes.  She also saw action in the field during the first half.

After playing four straight against Skyline opponents, the Privateers' next two games are both non-conference contests.  Maritime hosts York (1-4) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
