THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College women's soccer team put forth a dominant offensive performance on Tuesday night.
Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) scored twice, while
Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) and
Ava Morrill (New Windsor, NY) each had a goal and an assist, as the Privateers (5-4-0) notched a 5-1 victory over York (1-6-0) at Reinhart Field.
Maritime got on the board in the 16
th minute. Morrill took a corner kick and set up
Sara Williams (Oceanside, NY), who blasted it from the right side and in for her third tally of the season. Ford then made it 2-0 in the 33
rd minute when she took a feed from
Alexa Heise (Levittown, NY), dribbled past the keeper, and found the back of the net.
In the 60
th minute, Maritime earned a free kick just outside the box. Morrill lined up for the set piece and fired it on goal. York goalkeeper Michelle Mancuso couldn't handle the shot, which ended up in the lower left corner for the Privateers' third goal of the night. After Garcia made it 4-0 in the 75
th minute, she set up Maritime's fifth tally less than a minute later. Ford got free down the middle of the field, took the pass from Garcia, and put it home for her 10
th goal of the year.
York managed to avoid the shutout when Zaria Neptune scored in the 84
th minute. Stephanie Ramirez, who assisted on the goal, made the start in net for the Cardinals and recorded two saves. Mancuso (1-5-0) entered in the 24
th minute and took the loss. She was credited with seven saves.
Jamie Kibler (Throggs Neck, NY) (1-0-0) started in goal for the Privateers and notched three saves to earn her first collegiate win. With her two goals, Ford now has 30 for her career, making her just the fourth player in program history to reach that milestone. She has scored in six of Maritime's nine games this season. Garcia's tally was her fifth this year, and Morrill notched her second goal to along with her team-best fifth assist.
On Thursday, the Privateers make the short trip to Lehman (4-2-0) for a 6 p.m. contest. The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 5.
