BRONX, NY – Multiple Maritime College baseball program records fell on Wednesday afternoon, as the Privateers (21-11) snapped their three-game losing streak with a 38-0 victory over Lehman (0-22) at South Field. Maritime's 38 runs and 29 hits both established program marks, while
Freddy Forgione (Ronkonkoma, NY) belted three home runs to break the single-season record. His three homers matched the single-game standard, and his seven RBIs were the most in school history.
Forgione's first homer was a two-run blast to right in the top of the first. He crushed another two-run shot, this time down the left field line, as part of the Privateers' eight-run third. Forgione came up again in the fourth and delivered a three-run long ball to left center that gave Maritime a 16-0 lead. He joined Eric Wenig, who accomplished the feat against Yeshiva on April 14, 2019, and
Jaden Shea (Severn, MD), who did it against John Jay earlier this season on March 14, as the only three players in program history with three home runs in a game. Forgione now has 18 homers this season, which is tied for the most in Division III.
The Privateers had a 30-0 lead after six innings, then broke the single-game scoring record on
Nate Revere's (Seaford, NY) two-run double in the seventh. The previous mark was 35 runs against Vaughn on April 4, 2015. That 35-0 win was also the old program record for margin of victory. Maritime also had 37 RBIs on Wednesday, bettering the previous standard of 29 RBIs in that game.
An RBI single by
Patrick Bartoletta (Plainview, NY) in the seventh was the Privateers' 26
th hit of the game, one more than Maritime had against St. Joseph's Brooklyn on April 30, 2017. The Privateers finished the contest with 29 hits, as 13 different players had at least one hit. All 15 position players who got into the game scored, and 14 of them knocked in at least one run. Forgione's seven RBIs broke the single-game school record of six, while
Randy Ventura (Syosset, NY) established a new program mark by scoring six times.
Rob Copozzi (Center Moriches, NY) and Shea each smacked a three-run homer, while
Harry Leipold (Thornwood, NJ) added a solo shot.
Anthony Madigan (Greenlawn, NY) finished with four hits, and
Vasilios Vafakos (Astoria, NY) had two doubles and four RBIs.
Nick Pinggera (Kings Park, NY), meanwhile, scored three times and drove in three runs.
Five different Maritime pitchers took the mound, with
Brandon Stanley (Trinity, FL) getting the start. He tossed a scoreless inning, allowing one hit, walking one and striking out one.
Jimmy Tighe (Mineola, NY) (1-0) was credited with the win after going three innings. He gave up one hit and issued two walks while notching one strikeout.
Lehman had three hits in the game, two singles by Tran Hennessy and an Eli Fermin double. Starting pitcher Randy Polanco (0-5) lasted 2.1 innings and took the loss. He surrendered nine runs on 10 hits while striking out two and walking two.
On Saturday, Maritime (9-5 Skyline) concludes its home schedule by hosting Purchase (15-16, 7-5 Skyline) for a 12 p.m. doubleheader. The Privateers will honor their 15-member senior class prior to the start of the twinbill.
